Interview By:

— How would you describe Margot House in a nutshell?

Gonzalo: “Margot House is a small luxury boutique hotel located in the heart of Paseo de Gracia in Barcelona. What we try to offer our vacation guests is a sensation of feeling at home by providing them with very personalized services.”

— How did the Margot House hotel project start?

Gonzalo: “The owners of Margot House are the owners of Natura Casa, which is a decoration store here in Barcelona. They were looking to open another store but came up with this space in a historical 1880’s building and thought it would be better used as a small boutique hotel rather than a store. It took about a year to renovate.”

— Please tell us about the interior design of Margot House.

Gonzalo: “The owners decorated the interior since they have a strong background in decoration from the deco store Natura.

Wood and cement were the main materials used. So it’s a simple yet luxurious design. Most of the furniture, as well as the towels and other amenities of the bedrooms, were brought in from local stores and artists in Barcelona.”

— What about the different hotel rooms at Margot House?

Gonzalo: “There are nine rooms in total and there are four different categories that all follow the same design. There are Standard Rooms, varying from 18 to 23 square meters, that are facing an interior courtyard. They all have private bathrooms. Then we have a Superior Room that is larger, 25 square meters, and also faces an interior courtyard but has both a shower and a bathtub. There are four Suites which face Passeig de Gràcia, and have very big windows. They are around 30 to 37 square meters big with private showers and bathtubs. All the rooms have a safety box, TV, music and DVD players.

My favorite room is #5. It is one of the Suites that faces Passeig de Gràcia, but it’s a bit different in that it has glass from the bathroom to the bedroom so it offers a special atmosphere and feels like there is more space.”

Gonzalo: “We serve a buffet breakfast that includes many local products from around Barcelona. Each evening we set out some small baked goods for the guests. Free tea and coffee are also served 24 hours a day, and we have an honesty bar that includes drinks such as wine, beer, and soft drinks.

We offer a neighborhood guidebook from the surroundings of the hotel in which we have recommended different restaurants and things to do here in Barcelona.

Free WiFi is offered in all the rooms and common areas, and there’s a Mac hotel guests can use if they didn’t bring their own computer. We have bicycles for guests to rent. And we can do laundry.”
