An introduction to House under the Olive Tree

How would you describe House under the Olive Tree in a nutshell?

House under the Olive Tree is one of two luxurious vacation rentals on the same property on the northern coast of Sicily near Cefalù. This typical Sicilian house has space for up to six guests. It is a very relaxed and authentic environment due to the natural color palette, which was used around the house as well as the traditional objects and vintage furniture that were brought in specifically for this house.

What do you particularly like about this part of Sicily?

Sicily is a big island but is very different city by city, village by village in terms of culture, food and coast. My father is from the north of Sicily, so I’m familiar with that idea of life, which is something our guests will get the chance to experience during their stay in this area. In my opinion, the land around Cefalú is one of the best sides of the island.

I also really like the different experiences one can take part in in this area of Sicily. Madonie, a small village in the mountains is a wonderful place for guests to explore and try some delicious food. Another fantastic drive with beautiful views is the track of the famous race Mille Miglia, which starts in Cefalù and then goes up the mountains.

Who is this vacation home ideal for, and who should rather book something else?

While there is enough space for a family of four at the rental, we would not recommend it for smaller children. It is however ideal for a group of people or a family with older kids.

House under the Olive Tree rooms & rates

The holiday rental is located on a very long property, which has a guardian house at the entrance, then the House under the Olive Tree in the middle and the Villa on the Cliffs at the end. The old, rural house dates back to the beginning of the 19th century and stands surrounded by old olive trees.

On luxurious 100 square meters and spread over two floors with the living area, kitchen and one double bedroom on the ground floor and another double bedroom as well as an additional room that can be used as a single bedroom on the upper level. There are two bathrooms with showers as well as a garden with a private seating area. The patio outside is a perfect spot for meals or just to enjoy some relaxing moments.

This house was designed for four people in mind, but there is extra space in front of one of the two rooms where a single bed will fit. Another bed could also fit in the biggest room on the first floor. Therefore a maximum occupancy of six guests can be arranged.

The rental is self-catering but as an additional service we can bring in a chef for Sicilian or Arabic food. Upon their arrival our guests will find their kitchen stocked with all basic necessities.

We can also recommend the best restaurants in the area for those of our guests who want to venture out for meals. Most of the restaurants are in Cefalù, which is 5 mins by car.

We offer mid-week or even daily cleaning, and we have someone guarding the property throughout all hours of the day. So there is always someone available onsite to answer any questions that arise, like recommendations for restaurants or if something happens with the house. The guardian has a car and can offer transfers as well.

Plans for the near future include being able to provide some kind of romantic transfer, such as taking our guests by boat from the cliff side to the port in Cefalú and back. We are also considering offering electric bikes for people to get to Cefalú.

Things to do in Sicily & Cefalù

  • Art / Culture
  • Golf
  • Hiking
  • Scuba diving
  • Sailing / Kayaking
  • Boat trips

The House is perfect for relaxation. Our guests can soak up some sun, go to the beach or enjoy a nice meal on the patio.

The beach and the mountains are definitely worth seeing, as is walking around Cefalú, which has a very big pedestrian area, perfect to wander around the city. A trip to Palermo is another nice thing to do for a day or a short visit.

There’s the beautiful town of Santo Stefano di Camastra, which is a few kilometers from Cefalú and is famous for ceramics and tiles. The Aeolian islands are also very nice to visit. There’s a straight connection from Cefalú to Lipari, which makes for an easy trip if you want to spend one or two days exploring the seven volcanic islands. These islands are all very different, Lipari is the biggest, Panarea is quite fashionable and Stromboli has an active volcano, which you can climb with a guide.

The location of House under the Olive Tree

The house is located in Cefalù, a small town east of Palermo on the northern coast of Sicily. The nearest airport in Palermo can be reached in one hour by car. Within five mins from the property there are several restaurants in Cefalù, which is a UNESCO world heritage site with a Norman cathedral. During summer months this charming town can get somewhat crowded with tourists.

The coast right below the property is not private but there are two beaches close by. One is at Mazzaforno, which is about a six or seven minute walk. The second is almost like a secret, private beach and can be reached within a 12-minute walk. Settefrati looks like a nature reserve and is not very easy to find because there’s no official entrance, but we can direct guests to it.

When is the best time to visit Sicily?

For those of our guests who want to go swimming or do a lot of activities in the water, we would recommend coming here anytime between the end of April until the end of November. However, for those who enjoy spending more time at the house, they will find that it is a wonderful place to stay in all year-round. With its heated floors the house becomes a cozy hideaway during the colder winter months.
