Interview By:

— How would you describe Gutshaus Landsdorf in a nutshell?

Stefania: “Gutshaus Landsdorf consists of 4 holiday apartments in a hidden location in northern Germany, dedicated to art and design in the midst of wonderful nature.

Staying in Gutshaus Landsdorf means to turn away from city life, to enjoy the countryside and to experience moments which nowadays seem to be really rare. Landsdorf lets us realise the dream to host those who share our enthusiasm.”

— Please tell us a bit about the history of the estate.

Stefania: “When our parents were looking for a place to enjoy their love of gardening and art more than 15 years ago, they discovered Gutshaus Landsdorf. At that time the old manor only had a fraction of its old splendour left, but it still had so much charme that the entire family was taken by the idea to rebuild it.

At the very beginning we only spent our holidays there but with each visit we fell more in love with this place. We not only decided to move with our two children from Düsseldorf to this small village in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, but felt inspired to invite other people to get to know and spend their holidays at Gutshaus Landsdorf as well.”

— How would you describe the atmosphere at Gutshaus Landsdorf?

Stefania: “When visiting the estate you get the feeling of entering a cocoon. The silence, extent and diversity of the park are overwhelming. Gutshaus Landsdorf is so charming because the manor somehow reminds you of how it used to be in former times. It’s the mixture of modern and historical elements that make up the special atmosphere here at Landsdorf.

Our orchard delivers fresh fruit and vegetables and guests love our breakfast with fresh bread, our jam and müsli, as well as our homemade conserves. And especially in the summer season, our guests love our open fireplace.”

— There are 4 holiday apartments, please tell us a bit more about them.

Stefania: “All holiday apartments have gorgeous high ceilings, are flooded with light and offer beautiful views over the garden. The combination of the artworks with our interior design gives each apartment a unique flair. My favourite apartment is the one on the first floor. Before moving to Landsdorf, this apartment used to be our own holiday flat. Every time now I arrange it for new guests it reminds me of how everything started.”

— And you also host events and festivities.

Stefania: “Gutshaus Landsdorf also serves as a festival hall. Young and award-winning talents have already played here during the Mecklenburg-Vorpomern Festspiele.

In a couple of weeks we will have finished the transformation of the old granary and the henhouse into a modern event location. The old granary can be rented for all kinds of festivities. We love cooking and are really happy to finally have a big kitchen and room enough to host culinary events. And in August we will celebrate the first civil marriage in the former henhouse!”

— The Gutshaus is also a great place for family holidays?

Stefania: “There are no special activities or services we offer for children, we ‘simply’ invite the kids to immerse themselves in the place, to discover the park and the hidden corners in the forest. The most adventurous kids dare to swim in the lake, and all can play with our children’s toys and bikes... which are almost everywhere.

Kids also like to check if one of chickens has laid an egg, or not. And almost all kids like our horse and the donkey. Around Easter the new-born lambs are one of the spring highlights. In autumn children can learn how to turn delicious apples into sweet home-made juice. In winter we love to pull the children on their sledges over the fields.”
