An introduction to Domu Antiga

How would you describe Domu Antiga in a nutshell?

Domu Antiga is a small, warm and welcoming bed and breakfast in Sardinia, Italy, and the ideal place to experience the atmosphere of times gone by.

It was built around 1700 as a farmhouse typical of the Campidanese area. My father and I both have a deep passion for Sardinia and its history, so we carefully renovated the building and converted it into a Bed and Breakfast, trying to keep the original features of the house and its authenticity intact.

Domu Antiga rooms & rates

We currently have 3 bedrooms in our B&B, but we will add a 4th room this year. Each room is unique, especially the one where you sleep in an old barn. All rooms have air conditioning and private bathrooms, but there are no televisions in the rooms. We have a small library and an intimate family-run restaurant on-site that offers local slow-food to our guests only.

The double rooms feature a comfortable double bed, an en-suite bathroom with shower and a private balcony. Two of the rooms can have an extra bed, the third room can have a baby cot.

Things to do in Sardinia & Gergei

  • Art / Culture
  • Cooking classes
  • Hiking
  • Cycling

There are plenty of activities available in the area, including hiking, free climbing, mountain biking, and horseback or donkey tours. We can also organise visits of the local wine and olive harvests, the UNESCO listed archeological site of Su Nuraxi or other nuraghic sites and sacred wells. Otherwise there is also the Trenino Verde, a vintage train that runs through the wildest parts of the island, and the rare small wild horses that live on the unspoilt basalt plateau of Giara.

And we also offer cooking classes, which are conducted mainly by my mother. All dishes are of course seasonal and local and include specialties like ravioli with ricotta and mint, malloreddus rabbit with aromatic spices, or seadas with honey. The duration of the course is about 5 hours and ends with the final dinner of all the dishes just prepared.

Verfied Welcome Beyond stay
The family is very nice and its a beautifully restored house. We were supposed to stay for 3 nights, but decided to leave after 1 night. While the house is really special, we found that the town and the area are not so interesting, we felt a bit lost in the middle of nowhere. Even the owners suggested its best to go to the beach in the summer heat- but the closest about 1,5h away. We got a small discount, but were still charged for the 3 nights. We also had food at the hotel the night we stayed there and it was very good and the setting outside in the patio really nice.

Domu Antiga is located in the historic centre of the interior of Sardinia, surrounded by important places to visit, gentle rolling hills, wide open spaces, and olive groves and vineyards.

When is the best time to visit Sardinia?

All seasons are beautiful in their own way in Sardinia, but I personally love spring for its beautiful colours.
